We know that Gisela Eufe initially decided to study with Richard Hess in Bieleveld. Hess is one of the protagonists of the new figurative sculpture in Germany alongside Waldemar Otto and Bernd Altenstein in Bremen. With Altenstein she continued and completed her studies.
Gisela Eufe's subject has always been the feminine - or better, the female. A figure may be accompanied by a second one, or further motifs may come into play. Such as chairs, animals (a fish) and plants (a flower) always presented in a rigorous, if occasionally extravagant, eccentric, and sensuously appealing way.
With this approach to form and color, Gisela Eufe stands in the midst of the discussion on contemporary figurative sculpture.
