Nico Heilijgers (Utrecht, 1964) was educated at the Art Academy Minerva in the city of Groningen.
In the past view years he realized a deepening of traditional values and techniques such as regarding textures of materials and diversity of illumination in his still-lives and portraits.
In his most recent still-lives the artist prefers a more plastical representation of the portrayed subjects.
The texture of the skin of his oilpaintings is playing a more important role.
By means of repainting the original product, and by handling wet backgrounds whilst at the same time modelling his painted subjects, by glazing and shrubbing, the texture of the final painting will come to life.
Bottles, vases and pitchers in his still-lives are in shallow niches.
Pinned up reproductions obliquely provide indications, in a narrative manner.
