Ger Eikendal has been educated in drawing and social science at a tutors trainingcentre in the City of Groningen. He has kept since then his critical view on society. From his colleague Gerrie Wachtmeester he has learned the techniques and craft of painting.
The subjects Eikendal chooses are rather various. The painter has a message to bring and looks for the right image which fits with it. In doing so he visualizes the true content of his story. Italy with its specific architecture and landscapes is quite often a source of inspiration.
As artist Eikendal feels attracted to the German movement of the so called “Critical Realism” of the thirties of the past century, which has tried to stirr up the public with provoking images to make it more conscious in political and social ways. Eikendal too wishes to bridge the gap between art and society with his paintings, thus making his own themes and symbolism more admissible to a broader public.
“ I try to make people more conscious of their environment, through my paintings. ”
