Gerda Onnes was born in the City of Groningen in 1956. At present, she lives and works in the Province of Groningen.
Her education comprised the training for Teacher in Drawing, from 1984 untill 1985, and furthermore she studied at the Arts Academy Minerva in Groningen, from 1986 untill 1991.
She finished her College career with paintings in acrylic colors, though she likes to work with different materials and monoprints.
Gerda Onnes' oeuvre is inspired by her experiences resulting from her very own world of perceptions, sometimes closeby at home ( for example human beings, animals and flowers ) or faraway by impressions of travels through India, Marocco and Egypt.
Her paintings are figurative by their very nature.
Sometimes they come close to reality, on the other hand they do not picture reality in a matter of fact way.
Her present exhibition at Gallery Wiek XX derives its inspiration for the greatest part, from her passage through India, where she was struck by the elephant, which in its various shapes appeared in streetsceneries.
Gerda Onnes is indeed a highly talented artist, which we should cherish and accompany into full fledged maturity.
