Rein Pol
BackRein Pol
Rein Pol was born in the City of Groningen in 1949. He received his professional education at the fine Arts Academy Minerva in that same city, specialising in painting and printing. His teachers there were, amongst others, Diederik Kraaypoel, Wout Muller, Mathijs Röling, Ger Siks and Wim van Veen. Two years after having accomplished his studies he himself was appointed at the same Academy as teacher in design studies and painting. Rein Pol has been teaching at the Minerva Academy for nearly 15 years. Recently he got involved with the establishment of a new art education institute, the Classic Academy for the Art of Painting, located in the Groningen Aa Church.
From after summer 2007 he is giving master classes in figurative painting, at that place. Up from 1976 Rein Pol has been working as painter by profession. He always keeps a clear eye for the power of expression that apparently trivial details do have. Each theme painted by Rein Pol is represented in a clear harmonious composition showing large attention for incidence of light, material designs, and the effects of space and colours. The paintings are not meant to be precise copies of the reality surrounding us, but as the imagination of their own materialization!
Hans van Seventer once wrote: .. The subjects of Rein Pol's paintings are moving between perfectly ordinary and absurd. He paints music instruments as well as a bottle containing the fetus of a pig. Sometimes one can smell the dungeon coming out of his landscapes, and occasionally a Groningen slow train is toiling along the steep shores of a Norwegian fjord. His self portraits are a collection in its own right: in a mirror of a bathroom, in a glass showcase enclosed by the ghost of the past, or just with a little jar with gherkins, as sign of dignity.
Rein Pol belongs with his oeuvre to the so called Northern Figurative Painters.
